Troubleshooting and FAQ
Common DXF/import issues, units, and pricing surprises.
Common issues and quick fixes.
DXF import issues
"Found TEXT entities" Warning
Your DXF file contains text that hasn't been converted to paths. Laser cutters cannot cut fonts - text must be converted to vector outlines.
Solution: Convert text to paths in your CAD software before exporting:
- AutoCAD: Use
TXTEXPorEXPLODEcommand on text - LibreCAD: Modify → Explode Text
- QCAD: Modify → Convert → Text to Paths
- Inkscape: Path → Object to Path
See the Preparing DXF/CAD files guide for detailed instructions.
"Only DXF files are supported"
NanoQuote currently supports DXF. If you have another format:
- Export from CAD as DXF.
- Try a simpler DXF version (some exporters create complex entities).
Units are wrong (25.4x too big/small)
This is almost always inches vs mm:
- In the quote wizard, confirm the units selection for the file or layer.
Text appears tiny or in wrong position
If text paths appear very small or in the corner while other geometry looks correct:
- This was a bug in older versions with DXF transform handling
- Update to the latest version and re-upload your file
- As a workaround, explode all blocks in your CAD software before exporting
Layers missing or unexpected parts
- Check which sources are enabled in the wizard.
- If your DXF has both model space and paper space, try the Include paper space option.
Quote warnings
Oversized part warnings
If a part will not fit:
- Confirm machine max sheet size.
- Confirm the selected material sheet size.
- Verify the file units are correct.
Outdated configuration warnings
If you see an "outdated" badge:
- Review the quote for accuracy.
- Recalculate pricing after updating machines/materials.
- Re-run nesting if material usage changed.
Pricing surprises
If totals look off:
- Confirm baseline operator rate.
- Confirm machine operating rate and setup time.
- Confirm material sheet price, cutting speed, and pierce time.
- Recalculate pricing after updating configuration.
- Re-run nesting after changing parts or materials.
Quote sharing issues
Customer cannot access the quote
Possible causes:
- The quote is still Draft (not sent).
- The quote was Retracted.
- The share link has not been generated yet (send the quote).
Cannot send a quote
Possible causes:
- A customer contact is required before sending.
Preview not loading
- Large or complex DXFs may take longer to parse.
- If a preview fails repeatedly, simplify the drawing (reduce duplicated lines, blocks, or splines).
